Now that another successful SXSW has wrapped, students at Kealing Middle School will have greater access to music with world-class recording, mixing and mastering studios to experiment and create in. Spotify believes everyone should have access to music and believes in Kealing’s mission of using music and the arts to break down barriers and encourage creativity among students and the community. As an organization, we wanted to do our part to support that mission. Materials from The Spotify House at SXSW were used help build three mixing and mastering and recording studios and a classroom for the students of Kealing.
An army of volunteers, in partnership with many organizations, took down and recycled materials from The Spotify House to build recording, mixing and mastering studios for students of Kealing Middle School. In partnership with DPR Construction, MINDPOP, Acoustic Spaces, and Rebuilding Together Austin, Spotify and its partners helped expand the music production class where children from a wide range of backgrounds can come together to create, explore and work together.
To commemorate the collaboration, Kealing hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at which the mayor of Austin, the superintendent of Austin ISD, a representative from Spotify, and the executive director of MINDPOP made remarks. Attendees were also treated to performances by the Kealing Rockestra and Choir.
